Freimeisterkollektiv Rye (Straight Rye Whiskey) brings back the rich tradition of rye whiskey, once America's most popular whiskey. Rüdiger Sasse takes up this tradition, shaped by Eastern European and German immigrants, and reinterprets it in a modern way using regional raw materials from the Münsterland.
A unique composition
From 75% rye and 25% roasted rye malt, yeast and water, Sasse creates a dry whiskey with aromas of vanilla, hazelnut, orange, rock candy and dark chocolate. The use of 100% rye, 25% of it as roasted rye malt, is a special feature that gives this whiskey its characteristic taste.
Traditional distillation and innovative maturation
It is distilled in a column (patent still), while the final distillation takes place in a copper still (pot still) dating from 1880. Thanks to a deliberately lowered cut point, Sasse achieves greater complexity through longer maturation and ester formation. Maturation takes place exclusively in medium-toasted American white oak casks, in a cask warehouse specially designed to make optimal use of seasonal temperature differences.
